Six medical heroes named Canada's 2011 Hall of Fame inductees
OTTAWA, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame is delighted to announce the 2011 inductees who will join the ranks of the 82 Hall of Fame laureates who have gone before them in receiving this prestigious national honour. The six inductees are:

"While all the candidates exemplify the true spirit of medicine, this year's recipients are of the highest degree of distinction in terms of their contributions to human health in Canada and around the world," stated Dr. Alain Beaudet, president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and chair of the Selection Committee, an independent body of national medical leaders.
One of the incoming laureates, Dr. John Bienenstock, exclaimed, "Many people that I look up to have been inducted into The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, so to be considered accomplished enough to join this community is a significant privilege. For me personally, this award also recognizes research as the foundation for new advances in health care, and honours both the people, institutions, foundations and agencies who have supported my work, as well as the trainees who have invested their time and effort in my research program."
Over 600 of Canada's leading citizens will gather in London on April 28 for the 2011 Induction Ceremony. Chairing the committee is Dr. Michael Strong, dean of Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario, who said, "We are delighted to serve as the host faculty of medicine for the 2011 Induction on April 28. This is s a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase this year's inductees, and all the Hall of Fame laureates whose stories are proudly told in the organization's exhibit hall and national office located in downtown London."
Presenting the 2011 Induction Ceremony is BMO Harris Private Banking, joined by CN, the Canadian Medical Association, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and Scotiabank.
