OHSWEKEN, ON, April 29, 2016 /CNW/ - Six Nations Elected Council ("Six Nations") and McClung Properties Ltd. ("McClung") have arrived at a benefit agreement regarding the Avalon (McClung) Development, Caledonia, ON.
The Avalon development envisions approximately 2700 residential units over 530 acres. One-third of the lands (180 acres) will be dedicated to the protection of environmental areas and park space.
The Benefits agreement includes the contribution of 200 acres to the Six Nations of the Grand River by McClung. In addition, there will be employment opportunities in home construction trades, from landscaping to framing, and environmental and cultural heritage features will be protected over the entire project area.
The Six Nations Elected Council will continue to seek accommodation from the Province of Ontario. The Province, as the Crown, bears the ultimate responsibility to consult and accommodate Six Nations' interest. The Agreement is also without prejudice to Six Nations Claim against the Crown in court action No. 406/95. McClung Properties Ltd is fully in support of Council's continuing efforts to resolve all matters that may exist with the Crown. In the meantime, Six Nations Elected Council supports this community development project and we look forward to the continued relationship with Empire Communities.
Representatives from Six Nations and McClung will be on hand to share with the Six Nations Community the project work completed and the benefit agreement. The project details and benefits will be made available to the community at three (3) community information sessions. In addition, you may also comment on www.snfuture.com.
