TORONTO, March 17, 2016 /CNW/ - Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was named one of North America's best airports by Skytrax World Airport Awards, the premier international airport awards voted on by more than 13 million passengers worldwide. Billy Bishop Airport was ranked the ninth best regional airport on the continent, making it one of only two regional airports in Canada to be recognized in the category. Halifax Stanfield Airport was ranked fourth, with such U.S. airports as Kentucky, Cincinnati and Seattle-Tacoma rounding out the list. The awards were presented yesterday evening in Cologne, Germany, at the 2016 Passenger Terminal Expo.
The 2016 Awards are based on 13 million customer nominations across 112 nationalities of air travellers, and included 550 airports worldwide. Passengers continue to choose Billy Bishop Airport as a top airport with high marks across 39 key performance indicators, including fast check-in times, ease of access to the terminal, and the courtesy and efficiency of airport staff. Billy Bishop Airport won the same award in 2014.
"This international recognition by Skytrax World Airport Awards for the third time is a true testament to all of the people and organizations that contribute to our airport's success. From our exceptional PortsToronto staff to the award-winning airlines to the excellent service providers, this airport has grown into a world-class facility offering passengers a unique travel experience that is valued and appreciated by all those who travel to and from it," said Geoffrey Wilson, CEO of PortsToronto, owner and operator of the airport.
This Skytrax World Airport Award is the second international passenger-driven award won by Billy Bishop Airport over the past month. On February 29, the airport was named one of the top airports in North America in the Airports Council International's (ACI) 2015 Airport Service Quality Awards. In 2015, the airport was also recognized as one of the Top Ten Most Beautiful Airport Approaches by Private Fly and was a finalist in the World Business Travel Awards.
