Slow down and drive safe in heavy rain
TORONTO, Nov. 16 /CNW/ - When the rain is pouring down, slow down and leave enough space between you and the car ahead.
That is the message CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) is giving drivers with heavy rain and blustery winds forecast for rush hour throughout Southern Ontario Tuesday night and into the morning drive Wednesday.
"Avoiding trouble on the roads during wet weather starts before you get behind the wheel and ends only when you arrive at your destination," said Jeff LeMoine, CAA SCO spokesperson.
Being prepared for slick roads and limited visibility during a commute in heavy rain can mean the difference between an uneventful drive and one that results in an accident.
CAA SCO suggests the following tips to prepare for driving in heavy rain:
Before you drive:
- Leave early - allow for more travel time
- Test your full lighting system
- Ensure your wipers are working and free of debris
- Open a window or turn on your heater to defog your windows
While driving:
- Slow down
- Leave more space between you and the vehicle ahead
- Brake earlier and with less force
- In blinding rain - pull over and wait it out
