SMTC Announces Manufacturing Partnership with Vocera Communications, Inc.
SMTC Facilities in San Jose California and Chihuahua Mexico to Provide Complete Product Life Cycle Support
TORONTO, Oct. 12 /CNW/ - SMTC Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTX, TSX: SMX) ("SMTC"), a global electronics manufacturing services provider, announced today the commencement of a manufacturing relationship with Vocera Communications, Inc.
Vocera is a leading provider of hands-free, wearable, voice-controlled communication badges, smartphones, and other wireless devices. The Vocera wireless communication system provides hands-free, voice communication for use in 802.11b/g networked facilities with key applications in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
SMTC began manufacturing the Vocera communications badge at their Chihuahua, Mexico facility in the third quarter and expects to achieve full production volumes during the first quarter of 2011.
Vocera will leverage SMTC's regional manufacturing footprint in San Jose, California to support the development and introduction of their next generation communication badge prior to transitioning the product to SMTC's lower-cost production facility in Chihuahua, Mexico.

SMTC facilities deploy a "Copy Exact" framework which leverages common SMD placement and test equipment along with standardized manufacturing and product data management software systems and manufacturing processes to ensure seamless, timely and cost effective production transfers.
