National campaign for Food Banks Canada aims to provide 20,000 meals
to Canadians by end of year
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - Snack Pack is partnering with Food Banks Canada on a campaign to provide 20,000 meals to Canadians in need by the end of the year. The Snack.Smile.Carry On. campaign is a social media campaign featured on Snack Pack Canada's dedicated Facebook page. For each user that participates in the Share a Smile challenge, the pudding brand will make a donation to Food Banks Canada to assist with providing essential food to families across the country.
To participate in the social media campaign, users can visit the Snack Pack Canada Facebook page and accept "Today's Smile." By accepting the smile, Snack Pack will donate $1 to Food Banks Canada on their behalf, resulting in one meal for a Canadian in need. The user will also be entered into a weekly drawing and can share news about their donation with friends by sharing their smile and sending an automatic message to friends.
Facebook users can visit the Facebook page everyday and Snack Pack will make a donation on their behalf, no matter how many times they return. Money raised will be tracked on the Facebook page to allow friends to see how their donation is making a difference.
"Snack Pack is proud to be making a donation to Food Banks Canada," said Sean Cunningham, Shopper Marketing Manager, ConAgra Foods Canada. "This campaign is all about taking a moment to smile and sharing that smile with others. I cannot think of a better way to bring a smile to someone's face than to donate a meal to a fellow Canadian who really needs it."
In 2009, Food Banks Canada reported an 18 percent increase in food bank use, versus the year before, pointing to the need for Canadians to join forces in the fight against hunger. Through the Snack.Smile.Carry On campaign, Snack Pack will donate $20,000 to Food Banks Canada in time for the holidays, resulting in 20,000 meals reaching tables in Canada.
"Hunger affects many families in Canada," said Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. "We are thrilled that Snack Pack is raising awareness about the need in communities across the country and we thank them for supporting us with the Snack.Smile.Carry On. campaign."
The campaign runs until Dec.17. To visit the Snack Pack Canada Facebook page, please go to www.facebook.com/snackpackcanada.
Snack Pack is a ready-to-eat, single serve pudding and gelatin cup. Snack Pack pudding is made with skim milk, contains no high fructose corn syrup and offers fat free and no sugar added options in a variety of flavours.
