MONTREAL, Oct. 23, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) has been awarded a contract by Lac Otelnuk Mining Ltd., a joint venture between Adriana Resources Inc. and WISCO International Resources Development & Investment Ltd., to provide feasibility study services for the Lac Otelnuk iron ore project in the Nunavik region of northeastern Quebec.
The project site is located in the Labrador Trough belt, approximately 170 kilometres north of the town of Schefferville. The feasibility study will be based on an open pit mine producing 180 to 200 million tonnes of iron ore per year and a process plant designed to produce 50 million tonnes per year of iron ore concentrate as a final product.
SNC-Lavalin's scope of work includes exploring options for the open pit mine, crushing and conveying systems, the process plant, infrastructures for the mine and process plant, tailings storage and mine reclamation and closure. SNC-Lavalin will also study options for transporting the iron ore concentrate to port facilities located in the Sept-Iles region. The study is valued at approximately $13 million in services.
"SNC-Lavalin has a longstanding presence in the Quebec mining industry and world-class iron ore expertise," said Dale Clarke, Executive Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc.
