SNC-Lavalin congratulates Infrastructure Canada and Signature on the Saint Lawrence for earning Platinum award on the New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project
MONTREAL, June 6, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) congratulates Signature on the Saint Lawrence (SSL) and Infrastructure Canada (INFC) for work on the New Champlain Bridge earning the ENVISION® Platinum award from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). This is the first ENVISION® project evaluated in Quebec and the first large-scale bridge in Canada to receive the award which recognizes all the efforts made to observe the highest standards in terms of environmental performance and sustainable development.
"The ENVISION® Platinum level award is an outstanding achievement and well deserved by everyone involved in the Signature on the Saint Lawrence consortium," said Ian L. Edwards, President, Infrastructure. "I would like to commend INFC for the concept, definition design and shared vision to develop this project to the highest environmental standards and employing sustainable methods. The outcome will live on for generations to come."
The New Champlain Bridge is one of the largest transportation infrastructure projects in North America and it is vital to the economic growth of Quebec and Canada.
"I would like to thank the teams, especially the SSL environment team led by Marthe Robitaille, who have worked together to achieve this prestigious recognition," said Hugh Boyd, Project Director for the New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project, Signature on the Saint Lawrence. "The project is subject to very high technical standards of sustainable development and, as a flagship project for Montréal and Canada, it was crucial for SSL to attain the highest possible distinction."
SNC-Lavalin is part of the SSL consortium that was chosen to carry out design, construction, financing, operations, maintenance and rehabilitation of the New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project under a public-private partnership agreement with the Government of Canada. With a 125 year design life, the new crossing will include a 3.4 kilometre bridge across the St. Lawrence River, as well as a 470 metre bridge connecting Montreal to Ile-des-Soeurs. In addition, the 4.5 kilometre federal portion of Highways 15 and 10 will be reconstructed and widened.
ENVISION® is a sustainable infrastructure rating system from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, a Washington-based organization, that specifically targets urban infrastructures (roads, bridges and train stations). It is comparable to the LEED certification program in the construction industry.
