SNC-Lavalin-Mott MacDonald JV to provide project management services for Federal Way Extension project Français
MONTREAL, June 10, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) is pleased to announce that Sound Transit has selected South County Transit Partners, a joint venture (JV) of Mott MacDonald and SNC-Lavalin's Atkins business, to continue its role providing project management services for the Federal Way Link Extension project in the Seattle area. The contract covers the design and construction period of the project, Phase 2B.
"We are very proud to continue our work to deliver the Federal Way Link Extension alongside our partner Mott MacDonald," said Ian L. Edwards, President and CEO, SNC-Lavalin. "Our team is driven by shaping a better world and will build on our extensive design-build experience for large-scale light rail projects. We believe our expertise will prove valuable as the world will require new transit solutions for a post COVID-19 environment."
"This contract award strengthens our position as a trusted advisor for Sound Transit," said George Nash, CEO, Atkins North America. "At Atkins, we recognize that developing critical infrastructure projects is a collaborative process, and we will draw on our ability to work with our partners and stakeholders to make sustainable mass transit a reality for the citizens and communities of the Central Puget Sound region."
The Federal Way Link Extension project, a 7.8-mile extension of the Link light rail line that includes three elevated stations, will be Sound Transit's largest design-build contract to date, valued at $1.4 billion. The project will extend light rail service from the Angle Lake Station to the Federal Way Transit Center. New stations will be constructed near Kent Des Moines Road, South 272nd Street and the Federal Way Transit Center, and are expected to be open for service in 2024.
For Phase 1 of the project, South County Transit Partners provided project oversight services leading up to the execution of the design-build contract. Services and responsibilities under the Phase 2B project management contract include resident engineering, construction and engineering management, project controls and scheduling, change management, technical support and inspection, and quality assurance activities.
