Social Investments in Ontario Budget Good for Education

TORONTO, Feb. 26, 2016 /CNW/ - The Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association (OCSTA) views the recent provincial budget announcement as confirmation of the government's commitment to providing stable funding in education while paying particular attention to those factors that contribute to the health and well being of children.

"As we prepare today's students for tomorrow's economy, we are pleased with the government's commitments to make post secondary experiences accessible to all, regardless of income. We also applaud the steps being taken to improve the effectiveness of the province's welfare system and access to affordable housing. These are the kinds of changes that can positively impact the education of children in Ontario and is encouraging news for the education sector," said OCSTA president, Kathy Burtnik.

OCSTA recognizes the various pressures on the provincial economy and the subsequent impact this has on government revenues. While sustained funding for key initiatives in education infrastructure is welcome and reflected in 2016 provincial budget, OCSTA awaits the specific education funding details to be set out in the forthcoming Grants for Student Needs.

OCSTA is committed to working with the government and our provincial education partners to provide the best opportunities for all students in Ontario to realize their full potential.
