/CNW Telbec/ - Daydream Nation, a Telefilm-supported feature film currently in production in B.C., is the first Canadian film to break into into the top ten movies on MovieSet.com, a movie web site providing fans with daily news and content from films in various stages of production. Daydream Nation received great exposure on MovieSet, helping it achieve the number one spot by garnering more views than any movie ever featured on the site. MovieSet also benefited from Telefilm's support through the
Canada
New Media Fund.
"MovieSet is a great tool for film producers, especially as we know how much social media campaigns are now playing an important role in our distribution and promotion strategies - basically getting the word out about films way before their theatrical release," says Christine Haebler, producer for Daydream Nation at B.C.-based Screen Siren. "MovieSet allowed Daydream Nation to provide a behind-the-scene look at the shoot and production, something fans everywhere can appreciate. For us, it means an earlier buzz that can spread across social media networks and reach our audience efficiently."
"There is tremendous potential in social media tools and the web when it comes to promoting Canadian films," stated
Earl Hong Tai
, Telefilm Canada's Western Regional Director, Business Development. "We want to support the industry's adoption of online marketing tools - whether it's MovieSet or other tools - as we believe it will help produce convincing box-office results. It is very exciting to see B.C.'s Daydream Nation achieve this success on an online platform this early in the production process; it highlights the effectiveness of social marketing as part of a solid promotional campaign."
Daydream Nation, a provocative yet humorous romance about a rural community shaken by the arrival of an acerbic teenage girl, stars Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Defendor),
Josh Lucas
(Poseidon), Reece Thompson (Provinces of Night),
Rachel Blanchard
(Adoration, Where the Truth Lies) and Andie MacDowell (
Groundhog Day
). Written and directed by
Mike Goldbach
, the film is produced by Christine Haebler and
Trish Dolman
for Screen Siren in
Vancouver
(Year of the Carnivore), and Simone Urdl and
Jennifer Weiss
for The Film Farm in
Toronto
(Away from Her, Redacted), and executive producer
Cameron Lamb
. Daydream Nation is co-financed by Telefilm
Canada
and TriStar Film Finance and distributed in

by E1 Entertainment.
