SodaStream Canada support young people across Canada and the world through
a company-wide shutdown of e-commerce and head office operations
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 18, 2019 /CNW/ - SodaStream Canada will #ClimateStrike on September 20 along with the entire global SodaStream team by shutting down all e-commerce and head office operations. Specifically in Canada, employees are also taking action through a local shoreline cleanup, something very important to the team.
"The climate crisis is an emergency and can no longer be ignored. It is our responsibility as leaders to hear and raise the voice of the young generation today and act now," commented SodaStream CEO, Eyal Shohat. "Caring for the planet is at the core of our company, and we have to walk the talk."
SodaStream, well known for its fight against single-use plastic waste, takes a step further for the environment by standing up for climate change. SodaStream will shut down its global e-commerce activities for 24 hours starting 8:00am this Friday. All of the SodaStream websites will deliver the message: "Global Climate Strike in Solidarity with the Young Generation for a Better Future."
"SodaStream Canada makes sustainability a priority; we are on a journey and constantly evolving across our operations," explains Rena Nickerson, SodaStream Canada Country GM. "By 2025, SodaStream Canada will have contributed to eliminating up to 4 billion single-use-plastic bottles. We are committed to eliminating packaging of our cylinders, and to date are 92% of the way there. Further, with the opening of our first Canadian refilling station in March 2019, we will have eliminated 2.1 million km of travel by 2025. Our employees are passionate about sustainability, and it is a major reason so many young people want to work here – they want to make a difference and be part of this change."
SodaStream is inspired by and proud to stand with Greta Thunberg and the young generation for a better future. The facts about climate change have been available for decades, but ignored. Greta Thunberg, a brave teenager from Sweden has made it her mission since 2018 not only to raise awareness of the impending issue, but to motivate people to act.
SodaStream nourishes people with healthy, sparkling water, but it also helps rid the world of plastic waste. One reusable SodaStream bottle can save an average family up to 2,000 disposable bottles every year.
