OAKVILLE, ON, July 26 /CNW/ - Join the Sodexo Foundation, Food for Life and Appleby College as they celebrate the launch of Feeding Our Future in Halton Region. On this day, there will be a free Barbeque to celebrate the children, summer camps, program launch and community partnerships that make it all happen.
For some children, the end of the school year means backyard barbecues, summer camp and beach vacations with family. But for the more than 2 million children who depend on free or reduced-price breakfast or lunch, the end of school can mean hunger and malnutrition. While some existing community food programs do provide meals for some of these children each summer, many still go hungry.
In an effort to supplement community programs, Sodexo Canada launched the Feeding Our Future program in 2000. Working with committed individuals Feeding Our Future has provided more than 500,000 meals to needy children in Calgary, Halifax, Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
The media are invited to the BBQ lunch on Wednesday July 28th, 2010 at 12 noon.
