MONTREAL, Aug. 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - For nearly two weeks now, Montreal has witnessed a massive influx of Haitian asylum seekers following the changes in immigration policy in the United States: Several venues, including the Olympic Stadium, have been temporarily reserved to welcome them.
While waiting for Canada's Immigration department to determine the status of these asylum seekers, Maison d'Haïti wishes to help, as it has always done since its 45 years of existence. As Mrs. Villefranche, Director of the Maison d'Haïti mentions: "Quickly, they have to find accommodations and equip themselves. For families with children, theses ease with which they settle in is KEY- especially if this precarious situation persists. "
The Maison d'Haïti team is mobilizing as it did in 2010, following the earthquake in Haiti, to accompany the asylum seekers, through technical support to fill the needed documents, psychological support, material support (strollers, diapers, furniture, etc.).
The Maison d'Haïti salute the generosity and solidarity of the people of Montreal, Quebec and Canada who wish to help/contribute to welcoming asylum seekers. The Maison d'Haïti is at the heart of this movement of solidarity by aiding and supporting men, women and children every day.
We invite the population wishing to help the asylum seekers to donate to Maison d'Haïti and our website: http://www.mhaiti.org/faire-un-don
