SONOMAX-ÉTS RESEARCH CHAIR - QUEBEC TO BECOME A WORLD CENTER FOR AUDITORY R&D
MONTREAL, Nov. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - Sonomax Technologies Inc. (SHH :TSX Venture) and l'École de technologie supérieure (ETS) have joined forces to create an industrial chair for the development of advanced in-ear technologies.
The link-up will lead to important synergies between a recognized leader in the hearing protection and enhancement field and a leading engineering school.
"The Sonomax and ÉTS research teams head start and resulting in-depth understanding of this very specialized field will position Montreal to be a center for auditory research and development", said Sonomax's President, Nick Laperle.
Collaboration between Sonomax and ÉTS has been going on for close to 10 years. Groundbreaking results have already been achieved, thanks in large part to the leading-edge expertise of Dr. Jeremy Voix, a world expert in acoustic engineering. Dr. Voix was formerly Research Director at Sonomax and now is the new head of the Sonomax ÉTS chair.
Sonomax also has important research connections to BRAMS, the internationally renowned laboratory for brain, music, and sound research affiliated to the University of Montreal and to McGill University's celebrated Montreal Neurological Institute.
All of these connections will lead to the creation of new auditory technologies and the enhancement of existing in-ear products.
Sonomax has committed to invest $750,000 over a five year period, renewable for another term. This amount will be matched by the government.
With over 50 patents worldwide, Sonomax is well positioned in the global markets for the commercialization of its advanced in-ear technologies which are now being used by the military and the industry. More than 100, 000 workers are benefiting from Sonomax solutions which reduce noise-induced hearing loss associated with challenging environments.
Sonomax has developed an earplug which can be custom-fit to the unique shape of the ear by the user in minutes, and accordingly boasts a perfect acoustic seal.
The engineering of the Sonomax device allows for the incorporation of electronics within the earpiece, the result being a universal sound interface for all in-ear applications. Sonomax intends to become the reference for all in-ear devices, Bluetooth™ applications, and the integration of all communication systems allowing for talk and listen through the ear with perfect fidelity. The perfect seal eliminates the problems associated with generic earpieces -- competition from external noise which imposes hearing limitations, impairs communications, and characteristically causes users to increase volume to levels which can lead to permanent hearing loss. The consumer, music, industrial, military, and medical markets are targeted.
