TORONTO, June 9 /CNW/ - Sony today reconfirmed its pre-eminent position at the forefront of 3D with the announcement of a unique high-value 3D offering that draws on the strengths of Sony's unique '3D World' expertise in consumer electronics, movie making and gaming.
Confirming that Sony 3D TVs and Blu-ray players are now available for pre-order at Sony Style (www.sonystyle.ca), Future Shop (www.futureshop.ca), and will ship later this month, Sony Canada today announced a package of products and content, giving consumers compelling reasons to make their first 3D TV experience a Sony one.
3D-capable BRAVIA® HDTV models
Consumers can enjoy the excitement of 3D at home with Sony's XBR-HX800, XBR-HX909, and XBR-LX900 series 3D BRAVIA LCD HD TVs. These sets offer 3D cinematic capability and will set the benchmark for stylish and technically advanced 3D-capable TVs.
Sony's 3D HDTVs leverage the breadth and depth of the company's expertise to create an entirely unique experience at home that draws you closer to entertainment than ever before. Sony's 3D capable LCD HDTVs use active shutter glasses and High Frame Rate technology to reproduce clear, crisp Full HD 3D images.
3D glasses and transmitter accessories
Sony's 3D glasses, using active shutter technology to deliver full High Definition 3D are designed for both comfort and stamina, with flexible and adjustable side arms and nosepad and a choice of colours to allow a stylish and comfortable fit for everyone. Smaller black, pink and blue glasses are also available for people with smaller faces such as children, and with a battery life of approximately 100 hours1 and an auto shut off function, Sony's 3D glasses will allow you to enjoy the 3D action for longer.
While some Sony 3D TVs will come with 3D glasses and built in transmitter, sold separately, Sony's active shutter glasses will be available for $149.99 each, and the 3D transmitter for $69.99.

For a limited time, and at select retailers, consumers who purchase an HX series Sony 3D BRAVIA® HDTV can enjoy special bundle prices for Sony's active shutter glasses, Sony's 3D transmitter, and select Sony Blu-ray DiscTM players.
3D stereoscopic game titles for PlayStation®3 available with Sony 3D TVs
With the launch of Sony 3D HDTVs, PlayStation®3 (PS3TM) users are in for a treat as 3D stereoscopic gaming really comes of age. Timed to complement the launch of the 3D BRAVIA TVs, Sony will release four 3D stereoscopic PS 3 game experiences2 through the PlayStation Network, available as a free limited time offer, to purchasers of BRAVIA 3D HDTVs as of today. The promotional 3D stereoscopic game experiences include something for all the family, from the visceral excitement of Wipeout ®HD and MotorStorm® Pacific Rift, to the wry humour of PAIN, through to the family friendly fun of Super StardustTM HD.
PS3 owners can now upgrade their PS3s to be 3D game compatible with a firmware upgrade (via the PSN).
3D Blu-ray discTM movies available with the purchase of a Sony 3D TV
3D Blu-ray disc movies will be offered with the purchase of a Sony 3D TV.
Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs on Blu-ray 3DTM will be packaged in the television box, and consumers can register online for the Deep Sea Blu-ray 3DTM disc. Narrated by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, IMAX® Deep Sea 3D is an underwater adventure that transports audiences deep below the ocean surface to see life in a whole new way.
The eye-popping Blu-ray 3DTM release of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs will also be available for retail release in Canada soon, and offers a variety of special features including sneak peeks in 3D of Sony Pictures Animation's Open Season and Monster House, also coming soon to Blu-ray 3DTM.
Furthermore, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has unveiled plans to release the official 3D FIFA World Cup film on Blu-ray 3DTM during 2010.
3D Blu-ray Players and Home Theatre Systems complete the 3D Home Entertainment picture
Designed to complement the new 3D TV models, Sony can lay claim to the most comprehensive range of 3D Blu-ray Players and Home Theatre solutions available. The 3-D experience is a visual experience that is best enjoyed with full 3-D compatible surround sound systems. Whether the 3-D source is broadcast, Blu-ray or PS3, Sony has a Home Theatre system that can be added on easily.
Already in-store is the affordable BDP-S470 "3D ready" Blu-ray Player for $299.99. Bringing full HD 3D Blu-ray disc playback, a 3D firmware update will be released on June 10th, in time for the launch of Sony's 3D TVs. The BDP-S570 model, coming mid-June for $349.99, will be the first with 3D playback out of the box, and the BDP-S770 arrives hot on its heels in August for $399.99. Sony's 3D Blu-ray players and systems can also support your existing 2D movie collection.
In addition to 3D Blu-ray players, Sony will offer a wide range of 3D Home Theatre Systems (models HTSS370, BDVE370, BDVE870, and BDVIZ1000W), 3D compatible AV receivers (STRDN1010) and 3D compatible sound bars (HTCT150 and HTCT350). All of these systems will be able to handle FULL 1080P 3D video and also handle HD audio, providing customers with a total 3D Home Theatre experience.
