The Travel + Leisure 2012 World's Best Awards Readers' Survey Results of Top Resorts and Islands
SOOKE, BC, Aug. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - Travel and Leisure Magazine Readers' Poll has dedicated a category exclusively to Canadian properties for their World's Best Awards. Today, Travel and Leisure has recognized Sooke Harbour House as Canada's #2 best resort for 2012, and on its list as one of the World's Best Hotels and Resorts. Vancouver Island was selected as their best island travel destination.
"It is very satisfying to know that our guests value the quality of our services, comfort and atmosphere. Whether it is the local art work, our romantic, intimate oceanfront guestrooms, our certified organic gardens and farm or our regional, seasonal cuisine, everything here at Sooke Harbour House is a celebration of Southern Vancouver Island," said Frederique Philip.
"I am extremely happy with this recognition for our hotel and for our Chef, Robin Jackson and his kitchen staff, and for our wine staff for having created an internationally recognized wine cellar with a wide selection of British Columbia wines. I hope that people from across the world will come to Sooke Harbour House to relax and experience the stunning, natural year round beauty and peaceful, pristine coastal setting of our area. We still enjoy the luxury of being surrounded by unspoiled nature, marine mammals and seabirds, and the view of the towering, majestic mountains across the Pacific", said Sinclair Philip.
In a previous edition, Travel and Leisure Magazine described the 28 room Sooke Harbour House as a "charming clapboard inn overlooking a dramatic Pacific beach and the Olympic Mountains, 45 minutes from Victoria." The cutting edge, as stated in the T+L 500, is the "inventive Pacific Northwest cuisine that has made this a legendary food and wine destination."
At Sooke Harbour House, meals are savoured in a candlelit dining room warmed by a wood burning fireplace with spectacular views of the ocean and Olympic Mountains. After dinner you can spend the night in one of their 28 rooms featuring stunning ocean views, wood burning fireplaces, soaker or jetted tubs and steam showers for two.
During the past year, the Sooke Harbour House Restaurant has been recognized by numerous publications for providing outstanding quality food and holding fast to its original philosophy of sustainable, local, seasonal, organic cuisine. Under the leadership of Head Chef Robin Jackson, the Sooke Harbour House kitchen team continues its creative development of use of wild indigenous foods of Vancouver Island and a Farm-to-Table and a Fishing Boat-to-Table approach. Sooke Harbour House participated in the Oregon Truffle Festival of 2012 featuring Chef Robin Jackson as an International Guest Chef.
