The Faculty of Social Sciences at Université Laval awards her the George-Henri Lévesque Medal for her remarkable contribution to the energy industry in Quebec.
MONTREAL, May 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Gaz Métro President and CEO Sophie Brochu was in Quebec City today to receive the Georges-Henri Lévesque Medal. This honor, awarded by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Université Laval, recognizes over 20 years of noteworthy contributions by a Laval graduate to society, whether here in Canada or abroad. The medal was officially presented to Ms. Brochu during the 53rd annual conference of Société canadienne de science économique, where Ms. Brochu was appearing as a guest speaker.
"This recognition from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Université Laval touches me deeply," said Ms. Brochu upon receiving the medal. "I owe a great deal to my alma mater and to the professors who inspired my actions and my thinking over the years."
The medal is named in honor of Father Georges-Henri Lévesque, a pioneer of Quebec's Quiet Revolution and the founder, in 1938, of the School of Social, Economic, and Political Sciences, which later became the Faculty of Social Sciences. Other leading Quebec figures who have received this honor over the past 20 years include Alban D'Amours, Pauline Marois, and Jean-François Lépine.
About Sophie Brochu
Ms. Brochu graduated in economics from Université Laval in Quebec City, where she specialized in the energy sector, and has been active in the energy industry for over 25 years now. She began her career in 1987 as a financial analyst with SOQUIP (Société québécoise d'initiatives pétrolières). In 1992, she was promoted Vice President. In 1997, she joined Gaz Métro as Vice President, Business Development. In 2005, Ms. Brochu was appointed Executive Vice President.
