The Institute of Corporate Directors names 2010 ICD Fellows

TORONTO , Dec. 11 /CNW/ - The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) is pleased to announce the following four Canadian business leaders as recipients of the 2010 ICD Fellowship Awards: Mr. Bill Anderson , Director, TransAlta ( Toronto , ON); Mr. Claude Fontaine , Q.C., ICD.D, Director (1984-2009), Petro-Canada ( Montreal , QC); Mr. S. Barry Jackson , Chairman, TransCanada Corporation ( Calgary , AB); and Mr. John Thompson , Chairman, TD Financial Group ( Toronto , ON).

The ICD confers the F.ICD designation annually to a prominent group of directors who exemplify the distinct qualities of good governance in boardrooms across the country.

"In a year that could easily be characterized for its many challenges in the corporate sector, we had little difficulty identifying directors worthy of applause for their leadership, effectiveness and integrity at the board level," said ICD Fellowship Nomination Committee Chair Mr. William (Bill) Dimma, C.M., O.Ont., LL.D, ICD.D, F.ICD (1999). "The ICD is extremely pleased with and encouraged by the caliber of talent, dedication, and commitment that can be found on so many boards of corporations and organizations across all sectors."

The 2010 Fellows were nominated by their peers and chosen by members of the independent Nomination Committee including: Mr. Brian MacNeill , C.M., F.ICD (2005), Ms. Mary Mogford , ICD.D, F.ICD (2002), Mr. Robert Parizeau , F.ICD (2006), Ms. Elizabeth Watson , ICD.D and Mr. Victor Young , O.C., F.ICD (2007). The committee considered a number of attributes such as leadership, accountability to stakeholders, contributions to governance, and knowledge of the business. Contributions outside of the boardroom, such as published material, speaking engagements and community involvement, were also considered.
