Second honour for project slated as 'the future of healthcare'
EDMONTON, Dec. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd (Kasian), one of Canada's largest global architecture, interior design and planning firms, is proud to announce that the Calgary South Health Campus has won the Institutional, (over $50 Million), 2012 Project of the Year Award in Alberta Construction Magazine's "Top Projects Awards". Now in their tenth year, these annual awards recognise the creativity, innovation and hard work that goes into designing and constructing Alberta's best projects. This is the second award for this revolutionary healthcare facility in less than eighteen months; in 2011, the Campus won the Canadian Construction Association's "Excellence in Innovation Award" for advanced construction practices.
The 44 acre South Health Campus is a direct reflection of Kasian's philosophy to enhance life through design. A world-class centre for the future of healthcare, the facility combines advanced hospital services with a proactive, holistic, approach to health and wellness. Calgary's largest hospital is visualized as a place of healing, a place of community and a place where individuals and groups can connect back to nature, enhancing the health and well-being of society and of the environment. A phased, sequential opening of programs and services is already in process. The Campus will eventually form the nucleus of a new planned community of 159,000 people.
Kasian is also associated with a number of other projects nominated for this year's "Top Projects Awards" including the 25-metre domed digital visualization theatre, located within the TELUS World of Science Building in Calgary. The theatre offers a state-of-the-art projection system which enables visitors to experience high-definition images, movies and planetarium shows. The Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre, a family-friendly activity complex in downtown Edmonton, was also a finalist in this year's competition. The facility was designed by HIP Architects, which merged with Kasian in August of this year.
These latest awards follow-on from the Kasian-designed Esker Foundation Gallery being nominated in November for a prestigious Interior Design "Best of Year Awards". The Gallery provides a dynamic platform for innovative and exceptional art exhibitions and educational events within Calgary.
