OTTAWA, May 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa is sponsoring Special Needs Day at the Gloucester Fair, where more than 1,500 children with physical and mental disabilities and their caregivers will have exclusive access to the fairgrounds to enjoy a fun-filled day.
Over 30 volunteers from Hydro Ottawa will assist children and youth on the rides, help with activities, prepare a special barbeque lunch, and provide them with a safe, welcoming environment they can enjoy. Today's event aims to, in part, raise awareness for special needs issues in our community and highlight that many children need the community's on-going support.
"This day represents a day of fun for the children and their hardworking caregivers," said Bryce Conrad, Hydro Ottawa President and Chief Executive Officer. "By giving back to the community Hydro Ottawa employees have an opportunity to bring smiles to so many delighted children while helping to inspire and foster a greater appreciation of the challenges for those who require extra care and attention."
The event ensures the children have access to special facilities, smaller crowds, slowed-down rides, and volunteers on site to attend to children at the events.
Hydro Ottawa has been the title sponsor of Special Needs Day since 2001. Special thanks to the Gloucester Fair, Loblaws South Keys, Moncion's Your Independent Grocer, Maple Leaf Foods, World's Finest Midway, Rideau Carleton Raceway and Chapman's Ice Cream.
The Gloucester Fair opens to the public from May 24 to 27 at the Rideau Carleton Raceway on Albion Road South. The Fair includes: midway rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, live entertainment, concession food stands and more.
