Morneau Shepell congratulates Spectra Energy on its 'Open Minds' wellness program, recognized in the workplace mental health category
TORONTO, May 6, 2015 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell, Canada's leading provider of employee and family assistance programs (EFAP), congratulates Spectra Energy and its "Open Minds" wellness program for being recognized as one of the 2015 Champions of Mental Health by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH).
"The Open Minds wellness program was created to remove the stigma associated with mental health while educating our leaders and employees on their role in understanding mental health in the workplace," said Linda Ydreos, Senior Director, Benefits, Spectra Energy. "With Morneau Shepell's support in developing the training materials, we were well prepared to launch our awareness and education program last year and have since received a great deal of positive feedback from across our organization."
The awareness campaign and training program is tailored to Spectra Energy's unique workplace culture – being one of North America's leading pipeline and midstream companies with a strong focus on safety. The program, which is available to Spectra Energy's 3,700 employees in Canada, consists of three-and-a-half hour in-person training sessions for leaders, one-hour computer-based training sessions for employees, informational pop-up videos, posters and on-site mental health material.
"Spectra Energy has shown an outstanding commitment to awareness and education regarding mental health and stigma in the workplace," said Randal Phillips, Executive Vice President and Chief Client Officer, Morneau Shepell. "They are very deserving of this recognition and we are excited to see the continued success of this program among the company's employee base."
CAMIMH held a gala to honour Spectra Energy and the other recipients of the Champions of Mental Health awards on May 5 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa. The celebration was presented by Bell as part of the Bell Let's Talk mental health initiative.
