Speroway to Host Screening of Sundance Award-Winning Film A River Changes Course

TORONTO, March 18, 2014 /CNW/ - Cambodia is in the midst of serious reform. Suspicion of election fraud is still in the headlines, accusations of large-scale human rights abuses are rampant, and sweatshop factory workers are threatening to unionize which provokes violent resistance against the organizers.  A massive economic land concession crisis has resulted in nearly 2.2 million hectares of land being reallocated from farmers and villagers to private firms. As companies push in to clear forests, villagers are forced off their farmland.

On March 20^th 2014, Speroway will be hosting a screening of the Sundance award-winning film A River Changes Course, which intimately captures the stories of three families living in Cambodia as they strive to maintain their traditional ways of life amid rapid development and environmental degradation. "A River Changes Course is a brilliant, subtle, and important film. It is a diary of the dignity, resourcefulness and entrepreneurial spirit of Cambodians. It is an emotional and engaging experience that leaves you moved by its beauty and challenged by the observations it makes and the questions it raises" said David Peck, Vice-President of Speroway.

The screening will take place at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema in Toronto, Ontario at 6:30pm on March 20^th 2014 and will be hosted by ET Canada's Rick Campanelli. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session, which will feature Kalyanee Mam producer and cinematographer of Oscar winning film Inside Job.
