SPORTLOGiQ welcomes renowned computer science professor and AI researcher
MONTREAL, Sept. 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - SPORTLOGiQ is pleased to welcome Jim Little to its world-leading research team. A prominent artificial intelligence researcher and computer science professor at the University of British Columbia, Little has been working as a part time advisor and will now be taking a more active role in working directly with the team.
"We are excited about having Jim Little on board, the trailblazer for vision-based sports analytics", said Mehrsan Javan, co-founder and CTO of SPORTLOGiQ. "What Jim has accomplished in his research on computer vision, machine learning, and sports analytics over the past 30 years is absolutely remarkable. Working with him to take sport analytics to the next level is a dream for any AI researcher who loves sports."
Little is a professor at the UBC computer science department, specializing in computer vision and machine learning, and boasts over 30 years of experience in the industry. He is among the pioneers in the development of computer vision tools for sports analytics from broadcast feeds. Given his expertise in AI, and sports video analysis specifically, a partnership with SPORTLOGiQ—the leaders in single-camera, multiplayer motion analysis—was an obvious one.
"I was attracted by the company's passion for tech and sport. In particular, by their expert team's advanced skills in AI, computer vision and machine learning," said Little. "I'm thrilled to join their team and be a part of the evolution of the sports experience. They are market disruptors and are always ahead of the curve. Together, we'll define the new language of sport."
Little will help with the company's development and hiring strategy and accelerate the building of one of the top AI teams in the world. He will also assist in transitioning the company's intelligent sports analytics platform to soccer, among other sports and markets.
