Spreading the love to fight women's cancers

CALGARY, Nov. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Cancer Society is launching a new video called #YouAreLoved about fighting women's cancers via social media today.

The video features the stories of Brandy, a young mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27; Melany, who tells of losing her innocence at the age of 17 when she was diagnosed with melanoma; and Emilia, a busy mother of four who was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 27.

"This is a moving look at three ordinary Alberta women," says Tiffany Kraus of the Canadian Cancer Society. "Three women who weren't expecting cancer in their lives - especially at this stage of their lives. But that's cancer - there's nothing fair about it."

The women sat down with Canadian personality Amy Matysio for an open and candid conversation about how early detection saved their lives, how cancer changed their lives, and how important it is to have an open dialogue with a healthcare provider.

"We want as many people as possible to see this video," says Kraus. "And then - something that's just as important - to send it to their friends, their family members and co-workers. This video will help get that important conversation started."

Amy Matysio - Host and Director of #YouAreLoved
Canadian actor and comedian Amy Matysio is a passionate ambassador in the fight against cancer. She is the director and host of the #YouAreLoved campaign as well as the host of Canadian Cancer Society Real Men Screen campaign; a series of three comical and candid PSAs to promote the importance of men's health.

Based in Saskatchewan, Canada, Preston Kanak is a filmmaker and time-lapse photographer. His portfolio includes broadcast and independent work with a focus on capturing the human condition, as well as the environment in which they live. Currently, Preston is producing an educational series as well as offering workshops across Canada — with the end goal of establishing an online resource for new media creatives.
