MONTRÉAL, April 20, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The urban agglomeration of Montréal is continuing its work to secure infrastructures, is redoubling its efforts to ensure the protection of the population in areas at risk of flooding and invites citizens to remain mobilized in order to deal with apprehended floods.
"We ask citizens in areas at risk of flooding to remain vigilant and continue their efforts to secure their property. We strongly encourage them to use sandbags when they are made available and invite them to take note of the preventive measures that are communicated by the authorities. The urban agglomeration of Montréal continues its efforts to ensure the safety of the population and of infrastructures" said Bruno Lachance, civil protection coordinator for the urban agglomeration of Montréal.
Preparing for possible floods
Water levels and flows are rising, but we have minor flooding for the moment, with no impact of riparian buildings.
Citizens are invited to:
- consult the internet site of the Centre de la sécurité civile;
- obtain an emergency kit within the next 72 hours;
- download the free application Montréal – Resident services in the App Store and subscribe to receive notices and alerts, by text or email, with the latest information released by the authorities;
- contact the 311 service, their borough office or their town hall to obtain sandbags.
Note that the rising water levels are particularly affecting the western sector of the island, namely the following boroughs and related cities: Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, L'Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Village de Senneville, Pointe-Claire and Montréal-Nord.
The urban agglomeration of Montréal wishes to remind the media that a spokesperson for the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal is available for interviews.
