St. Michael's Hospital live on Medworxx Bed Optimization System
TORONTO, Nov. 22 /CNW/ - Medworxx Inc. ("Medworxx") (TSXV: MWX), provider of healthcare solutions for patient flow, compliance and education, announced today that St. Michael's Hospital is now live on the Medworxx Bed Optimization System (BOS). Medworxx BOS is now live across St. Michael's Hospital, helping to manage 460 beds.
St. Michael's Hospital is a longstanding Medworxx customer, having used the Medworxx Utilization Management System for several years. The Medworxx Bed Optimization System (BOS), an integral component of the Patient Flow Platform, provides a real-time clinical status of patients, beds, and resources with a view to establishing efficiencies in bed management as well as managing specific equipment requirements and availability of acute, rehabilitation, continuing care or long-stay bed. Effective patient flow management requires a merging of the clinical and business components of the organization in a real-time orchestration of evaluation, action and communication of patients, beds and resources as provided by the Bed Optimization System. Medworxx BOS will be used at St. Michael's Hospital to manage bed requests, inform staff of bed status, and to view the overall demand capacity of the hospital. The system went live October 26th, 2010.
"Medworxx BOS is a "real-time" census management tool that supports the hospital's Patient Access and Flow program. Our Daily Bed Management Plan (DBMP) has been incorporated into the BOS solution that facilitates staff efficiencies in their daily corporate patient access and flow reporting. The DBMP reports inform the overall ability to match demand and capacity throughout the hospital," said Sally Remus, Director, Clinical Informatics, St. Michael's Hospital.
"The ability to identify available beds based on patient requirements and to improve the flow of patients throughout the hospital is extremely valuable to us", said Anne Trafford, Vice President, Information Management and Chief Information Officer, St. Michael's Hospital. "We hope to be able to improve the patient experience as we ensure that patients are assigned to the most appropriate beds as quickly as possible."
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) approach to hospital-wide patient flow management through Real-Time Demand and Capacity (RTDC) Matching focuses on proactive daily prediction of capacity and demand, and the creation of specific actionable plans to address barriers. The Medworxx Bed Optimization System provides an opportunity for hospitals and health regions to manage patient flow consistent with the IHI's RTDC model.
"St. Michael's Hospital going live on the Medworxx BOS is an exciting milestone for Medworxx," said Dan Matlow, President & CEO, Medworxx. "They are a leader in Patient Access & Flow in Canada, and we are proud to be able to partner with them for success in this area. We believe there is a tremendous need in the market for a solution to support the IHI model, and that St Michael's Hospital is leading the way."
