MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - The Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services (ACSESS) releases the Canadian Staffing Index for August of 2012.
The Canadian Staffing Index was 113 in August of 2012, which represents a 23% year-over-year increase from August of 2011, and a 3% sequential increase from the index value of 110 in July. The August index value represents the eleventh consecutive month of double-digit year-over-year growth. The Canadian Staffing Index is based upon reported billed hours for temporary staffing from a survey of leading staffing firms.
"August is the eleventh consecutive month with the index above one hundred," says Timothy Landhuis, Research Analyst at Staffing Industry Analysts. "This shows that the industry has maintained activity above pre-recession levels in terms of the volume of demand for temporary staffing, as the index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July of 2008."
Kevin Dee, CEO of Eagle Professional Resources Inc. and ACSESS national chairman of Public Relations and Communications notes "August marks the third successive month of growth, coupled with significant growth from pre-recession levels would suggest that Canada's economy is maintaining its recovery. This is significant considering the continued issues affecting economies in other parts of the world."
The index score of 113 measures the hours of labour performed by temporary and contract staff in August of 2012 compared to the benchmark index of 100 established in July 2008.
