Stars fight poverty

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 29, 2012 /CNW/ - Poverty is rocking headlines around the world, and Canadian celebrities are doing something about it. In April many of Canada's biggest names will go hungry for change as they do the World Vision 30 Hour Famine with students across the country. Along with 60,000 Canadian teens, they will fast for thirty hours, raising money to fight the root causes of poverty.  The roster of stars includes recording artists LIGHTS, Danny Fernandes, Neverest, These Kids Wear Crowns and Faber Drive along with  hockey players P.K. Subban and Dan Hamhuis and actor Jodelle Ferland.

The 30 Hour Famine is the world's longest running and largest youth fundraiser to fight poverty. It started in Canada more than 40 years ago. This year more than half a million students around the world will engage in poverty issues while raising money to support World Vision's long-term development work.

Each star will go hungry for one of four causes - food, water, education and safety.  Fans can do the Famine with their favourite celebrity by joining their virtual group. They can also support the star's efforts by donating online at famine.ca or by going directly to the celebrity's 30 Hour Famine group page.
