OTTAWA, Sept. 20, 2015 /CNW/ - Veterans Affairs Canada today issued the following statement regarding the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain:
Today we pay tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, an important chapter in Canada's military history.
The Battle of Britain was the first time air power was used to save a nation. More than 100 Canadians serving with the Royal Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force fought courageously in the skies over Britain to defend its citizens.
The selfless acts of courage and the sacrifices of all those who fought during the Battle of Britain helped prevent further advancement of German forces. The victory was regarded as a turning point of the Second World War and a step toward the liberation of Europe.
