Statement - Making seniors care a priority: Canada's doctors urge federal government action on latest HUMA committee report Français
OTTAWA, April 19, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is pleased to see the result of the work done by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. From recommendations to invest in residential care infrastructure to income support for seniors and their caregivers, the report Advancing Inclusion and Quality of Life for Canadian Seniors delivers a comprehensive roadmap for the federal government to take action in improving our approach to seniors care.
For almost five years now, the CMA has been actively working to highlight the growing urgency in addressing seniors care. The CMA was pleased to note that many of its recommendations provided last fall were noted and encouraged by the Committee. As front-line health care providers, we believe that improving how seniors are treated and providing them with proper access to long-term care will result in an overall better health care experience for all Canadians patients and a more sustainable approach to health care delivery.
It is now time for the government to take leadership and, most of all, bring these recommendations into action by collaborating with health care providers, provincial and territorial governments and Canadians. We look forward to working with all levels of governments to ensure that seniors receive the care they deserve.
