OTTAWA, Oct. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander issued the following statement marking Citizenship Week in Canada:
"To everyone who will take the oath of Citizenship this week in ceremonies across the country, the Government of Canada would like to extend a warm welcome, and thank you for making the greatest country in the world even better."
"When you choose to become a Canadian citizen, you are making a commitment to embrace Canadian values and to strengthen your community, your province and your country."
"Citizenship week is a time for all Canadians to remember and celebrate our freedoms, way of life and the institutions that have supported our peaceful, stable, and prosperous society."
Today's citizenship ceremony at Toronto's iconic CN Tower was the first of 58 special citizenship ceremonies that will be held across the country to mark Citizenship Week. People who are already citizens may also wish to participate in a reaffirmation ceremony, or consult www.cic.gc.ca for support and advice on organizing such ceremonies for themselves.
Citizenship Week 2013 runs October 21-27, 2013. Full details can be found here.
