OTTAWA, May 15, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement after participating in the 2014 National Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony hosted by the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem:
"As Canada's Minister of Veterans Affairs, I am proud to support the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem for its exceptional work in commemorative initiatives and in educating future generations about the horrors of the Holocaust."
"Our government stands united with Jewish communities in Canada and across the globe to remember the six million men, women and children who unjustly lost their lives during one of the darkest and most brutal periods in human history.
"As Canadians, we must never forget the suffering these brave individuals were forced to endure, and we must ensure these atrocities never repeat themselves by educating future generations about the evils that stem from anti-Semitism and other hatreds."
