OTTAWA, Nov. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, made the following statement after meeting with the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities (SCOTIC):
"I reiterated to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities the Government of Canada's commitment to ensuring a safe transportation system and enhancing the safety of the transportation of dangerous goods.

"As part of the review, the Committee will examine the progress being made on SMS implementation in all modes and make recommendations on further areas for improvement.
"The Committee will also consult with industry and government stakeholders to get their perspectives and advice on what more we should be doing to further strengthen Canada's transportation system.
"The Committee can count on Transport Canada's full support in this important undertaking."
