OTTAWA, Jan. 24, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement:
"I am pleased that Mrs. Jennifer Oades has been appointed to the position of Chairperson of the Parole Board of Canada. Having previously served as Deputy Commissioner for Women with Correctional Service Canada and Executive Director of the International Corrections and Prisons Association, Mrs. Oades brings 25 years of knowledge, experience and leadership in corrections. The duration of this appointment is for a term of five years and is effective as of January 31, 2018.
I am also pleased that Mrs. Sylvie Blanchet was appointed to the position of Executive Vice-Chairperson for a period of five years, effective January 3, 2018. Mrs. Oades and Mrs. Blanchet will lead the independent administrative tribunal that is the Parole Board of Canada, which contributes to the protection of society by facilitating, as appropriate, the timely reintegration of offenders as law-abiding citizens."
