Statement by Honda Canada Regarding Ignition Switch Interlock Recall: 2003-2004 Honda Odyssey and Pilot; 2003-2006 Acura MDX Français
MARKHAM, ON, Dec. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Honda Canada will recall approximately 23,300 Honda Odyssey and 12,400 Honda Pilot vehicles from the 2003-2004 model years and approximately 16,600 Acura MDX vehicles from the 2003-2006 model years in Canada to address a potential malfunction of the ignition interlock feature of these vehicles. Honda Canada has received several complaints about such failures in these vehicles, but has received no reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.
The ignition interlock mechanism can be damaged or worn under specific types of usage. If this happens, it may become possible to remove the ignition key when the shift lever is not in Park. If the transmission is not in Park and the parking brake is not set, the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of an accident.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will be sent in late January 2013. In addition to contacting customers by mail, at that time, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require inspection by going on-line to www.honda.ca/recalls and www.acura.ca/recalls or by calling (888) 9HONDA9 for Honda owners or (888) 9ACURA9 for Acura owners.
