MARKHAM, ON, June 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Honda will voluntarily recall 34,881 model-year 2007-2008 Fit vehicles in Canada to replace the master power window switch. Under severe conditions, rain water (through an open driver's window) or other spilled liquids may enter the master power window switch on the driver's door. Over time, exposure to water and other fluids can damage the switch, which can cause it to overheat and melt, and potentially damage the attached wire harness. An overheating switch could also produce smoke and potentially cause a fire. No crashes, injuries or fires related to this issue have been reported in Canada. Honda is advising customers to park affected Fit vehicles outside until the master power window switch has been inspected.
In January 2010, Honda conducted a recall of the same Fit vehicles for this issue utilizing a repair procedure which has since been determined by Honda not to be sufficiently robust to ensure that the switches would be protected against all moisture intrusion. Under the current recall, the master power window switches will be initially inspected, and if damaged, immediately replaced. (All 2007-2008 Fit vehicles are affected regardless of whether they were repaired as part of the prior recall.) If an affected vehicle's window switch is found not to be damaged, the owner will be notified again at a later date to have the switch replaced when sufficient supplies of the updated switch are available.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda Canada. Mailed notification will be sent to customers in late-July 2013. In addition to contacting customers by mail, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going to www.honda.ca/recalls or by contacting Honda Canada Customer Relations at 1-888-9HONDA9.
