Statement By Margarett Best, MPP On Scarborough Gun Violence
TORONTO, July 17, 2012 /CNW/ - Margarett Best, MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood, released the following statement on the tragic events last night in Scarborough:
"All of us in Scarborough, and especially the Morningside and Lawrence neighbourhood, are reeling after last night's senseless gun violence. I want to offer my deepest, heartfelt sympathies to the families of the young people who were killed as well as to those who were injured. This was a thoughtless tragedy that no family should have to endure.
This is a very sad day for me, personally. At this difficult time, we will work together and pray for everyone injured, and for those comforting their loved ones.
I also want to thank the first responders who were here helping the injured get the swift care they needed. Chief Blair assured me the Toronto Police Service is intensely investigating and he is encouraging anyone who may have witnessed anything to come forward.
This incident does not reflect the Scarborough I know and love, and that is why I have been in touch with the Premier's office and Chief Blair. By working together, we will find solutions so our community can move forward."
