GOLD COAST, Australia, April 5, 2018 /CNW/ - Congratulations to Joanna Brown on winning Canada's first medal of the 2018 Commonwealth Games today in Gold Coast!
Joanna Brown, from Carp, Ontario, won a bronze medal in the triathlon event. Joanna showed tremendous perseverance as she caught up with six strong competitors in the final leg of the race, allowing her to win her very first Commonwealth Games medal and Canada's first medal at the Games. Today, our Canadian women athletes have shown incredible strength. Their performances are a great way to start the Games, highlighting women's participation and success in sport.
Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of Joanna Brown's outstanding performance. She has given our Canadian team a fantastic start to the Games and set the stage for future success, as we enter day two of competition.
Canada is a leading sport nation, and the performance of each of our athletes is a reflection of our country's amazing athletic talent and national pride.
It is a great honour for me, on behalf of the Government of Canada, to congratulate Joanna Brown on her achievements. Best wishes to all Canadian athletes for much success at the Games.
