Statement by Minister Duncan on the Announcement of Canada's Flag-Bearer for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games Closing Ceremony Français
Minister Kirsty Duncan congratulates Mark Arendz who will carry Canada's flag at the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games
PYEONGCHANG, South Korea, March 17, 2018 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I would like to offer my most heartfelt congratulations to Mark Arendz, who was named Canada's flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. This exciting announcement was made today by the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
There were countless outstanding performances by all of our athletes, and Mark was selected for his team spirit and the positive influence he had on the whole team during the Games. His talent, drive and determination enabled him to win five medals in para nordic events and I'm thrilled I was able cheer for him at the Games.
The Government of Canada is proud to support our athletes at every stage of their careers. We support them at major events like the Paralympic Games, in their daily lives, and by removing barriers to physical activity and high-performance sport.
I encourage all Canadians to join me in cheering on Mark Arendz and our Paralympic team as they enjoy these last memorable moments at the Games, and as they march in the stadium for the closing ceremony tomorrow evening!
