Statement by Minister Garneau on the adoption of the global market based measure by the International Civil Aviation Organization Français
OTTAWA, Oct. 6, 2016 /CNW/ - The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, issued the following statement regarding the adoption of the global market based measure adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization:
"I am delighted that the International Civil Aviation Organization adopted today a global market based measure to make the growth in civil aviation carbon neutral starting in 2021.
"This is the first global agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions since COP21 in Paris, and I am extremely proud of the leadership role that Canada played in the negotiation of this global deal.
"Personally, over the last weeks, I had the honour of being involved with Transport Ministers of several key nations in order to get final consensus on this critical issue.
"Today, Canada should be proud to set an example with such a bold agreement for international aviation."
