In May, Canadians celebrate Asian Heritage Month
OTTAWA, May 1, 2018 /CNW/ - Today we mark the start of Asian Heritage Month. This is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of Canadians of Asian descent to the growth of our country.
The Government of Canada's theme for Asian Heritage Month 2018, "Passing It Forward: Culture Through the Generations," highlights how the cultural traditions of this community have shaped our country over the generations. It also underscores the remarkable achievements of Asian Canadians throughout our history.
Proud of their roots throughout Asia, Asian Canadians have played, and continue to play, a vital role in all sectors of our society. From arts and science to sport, business and government, they have helped build the inclusive, compassionate and prosperous country we know today. This year, as we mark the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, Asian Heritage Month reaffirms our government's commitment to diversity—one of our country's greatest strengths.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I encourage Canadians of all backgrounds to participate in Asian Heritage Month activities across the country. Together, let's celebrate the rich Asian-Canadian heritage.
