Today we're celebrating Canada Day in style!
OTTAWA, July 1, 2017 /CNW/ - Today is Canada Day. As we mark Canada 150, we are at a pivotal moment in our history.
We must use this opportunity to reflect on the many moments and events that have shaped this country. A country woven together by our many identities and underlined by a core value of respect. We cannot be afraid to speak about the whole of our history: the moments that make us proud and the darker periods that we must confront.
We must continue to listen to each other, learn more about each other and work to understand each other, because that is what Canada is all about. A Canada that reflects the rich cultures and traditions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities who founded this land. A Canada that is proud of its two official languages, French and English, as well as the official language communities across the country. A Canada that has been enriched by the many waves of immigrants that chose to make this country their home.
All across the country, we are joining together for the largest celebration in Canada's history. Major events are happening throughout the day in 19 cities, with 1,600 activities taking place in various communities.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage, I invite all Canadians to take advantage of Canada Day events to celebrate what it means to be Canadian during this exceptional year. Let's use this opportunity to strengthen the ties between Canadians of all backgrounds and to express the pride that this country inspires.
Happy Canada Day!
