June has been declared Italian Heritage Month
OTTAWA, June 1, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada has succeeded—culturally, politically and economically—because of our diversity. It is not only our strength, but also our pride.
On May 17, a motion was passed unanimously in the House of Commons to recognize June as Italian Heritage Month. From this year forward, the month of June will be a time to recognize, celebrate and raise awareness of the Italian community in Canada, one of the largest outside of Italy.
It is particularly fitting this year as we mark Canada 150—a celebration of our country's rich history and heritage, including our diversity and our commitment to equality and mutual respect.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I would like to thank Italian Canadians for their extraordinary contributions to this country. You have played a major role in making Canada the rich and vibrant country it is today. Grazie mille!
