Today we celebrate National Acadian Day
OTTAWA, Aug. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - On National Acadian Day, we celebrate the unique history and rich culture of the Acadian people.
The history of the Acadian people is one of courage and resilience. More than 400 years ago, the ancestors of present-day Acadians crossed the Atlantic and established the first French settlements in what is now Canada. Having overcome significant hardships over the centuries, the Acadian community has preserved its unique identity, culture and language with great pride and determination.
Today, we recognize the important contributions that this vibrant community has made to our society. As we celebrate Canada 150, I invite all Canadians to learn more about Acadian culture and the significant role that the Acadian people have had in shaping the Canada we know.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and as the Minister responsible for Official Languages, I wish everyone a very happy National Acadian Day!
