OTTAWA, April 13, 2017 /CNW/ - This week, Sikhs in Canada and around the world will celebrate Vaisakhi, the holiest time in the Sikh calendar.
Vaisakhi marks the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in 1699. Sikhs in Canada and across the world will participate in Khalsa Day parades and attend prayers at Gurdwaras.
Canada is proud to be home to one of the largest Sikh populations in the world, and we are grateful for the immense contributions this community continues to make to our country. Canada succeeds in part because we understand that our cultural diversity is a tremendous source of strength, and the Sikh community has been a part of that strength.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Multiculturalism, I would like to wish all Canadians of the Sikh faith peace, prosperity and happiness this Vaisakhi.
