In October, Canadians celebrate Latin American Heritage Month
OTTAWA, Oct. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - On June 21, Parliament passed a law designating October as Latin American Heritage Month, in recognition of the significant contribution that the Latin American community has made to the social, economic, political and cultural fabric of Canada.
Latin American Heritage Month is the perfect time to showcase the richness and vitality of Latin American culture and heritage.
This year, as we mark the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, this month's celebration reaffirms our government's commitment to diversity as a source of Canadian strength and pride. We wholeheartedly thank the Latin American community for their help in making Canada the welcoming, inclusive and prosperous country we know today.
As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, I invite all Canadians to learn about the culture and traditions of people of Latin American descent, and to take part in the activities happening across the country in October. Together, let's celebrate the very first Latin American Heritage Month!
