OTTAWA, March 27, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, today announced the appointment of Ms. Tracy M. Rispin to the Nutrition North Canada Advisory Board.
"I am pleased to appoint Ms. Rispin to the Nutrition North Canada Advisory Board. Ms. Rispin has extensive knowledge of First Nation issues and will bring invaluable input from the community of Old Crow, Yukon.
The goal of Nutrition North Canada (NNC) is for Northerners, like all Canadians, to have access to perishable nutritious food. That is why NNC was introduced and we are already seeing results. While only in its fourth year of operation, NNC has already proven its ability to increase access to healthy, perishable foods in isolated and remote Northern communities.
The Advisory Board is a key component of the NNC program, with members providing unique perspectives and strategic advice from the standpoint of northern communities. The Board is consistently engaging with Northerners in an effort to pass on informed advice on what's working with NNC and what improvements could be made.
Our Government will continue to engage with Northerners, retailers and suppliers on ideas to keep improving the program for Northerners."
