TORONTO, Sept. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, Premier McGuinty released the following statement:
"This evening, the people of Vaughan and Kitchener-Waterloo demonstrated the strength of our democracy and the vitality of our public debate.
I want to congratulate and thank our Ontario Liberal candidates — Eric Davis in Kitchener-Waterloo and Steven Del Duca in Vaughan on running strong campaigns. They championed our Ontario Liberal values with clarity, passion and pride.
We look forward to having Steven bring his energy and ideas to Queen's Park, where he will be a strong member of our team and a strong voice for the people of Vaughan. We would have been pleased to have Eric join us, but I know he will continue to find ways to serve Ontarians and his community.
Ontario Liberals are always proud and honoured to serve our province with the mandate Ontarians, in their wisdom, give us. Tomorrow, our government will continue working to balance the budget by 2017-18 while protecting health care and education.
As we move forward, we'll continue working with opposition parties in the Legislature on the priorities that matter most to Ontarians, just as we did in passing the Budget and then keeping that budget plan on track by ensuring education funding stays focused on the classroom.
In the months ahead, we'll seek productive discussions with all our public servants as we take further action to hit the pause button on public sector pay. Ontarians expect us to keep scarce public dollars focused on schools and health care. And that's what we'll do.
It's always an honour to serve the people of Ontario — 13 million strong — and Ontario Liberals will keep our focus on where it's always been: Moving all of us forward, together."
