MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 23, 2013 /CNW/ - The following statement was released by Frank V. Scorpiniti, Chief Executive Officer, Rexall:
In May 2013, Rexall sent a mailing thanking customers for receiving a flu shot at our pharmacies. This mailing included marketing materials. We have discovered that this mailing was sent in error, without the required consent of the recipients.
This is unacceptable. I apologize to our customers. I am sorry that this occurred and am taking measures to ensure it does not happen again.
I wish to stress that the personal health information of our customers was not disclosed outside of Rexall.
As soon as Rexall became aware of the situation, we immediately stopped this mailing and launched an internal investigation to determine the scope of the error and how it occurred. This investigation is still on-going.
Rexall is in contact with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (Ontario) about this issue and will work co-operatively with her office to address the situation.
We take our duty to protect personal information very seriously.
We will continue to ensure that we live up to our customers' trust to keep and safeguard their personal information.
